With winter looming, it is time for us to make a few changes within our homes to ensure that we are prepared. This includes both practical reasons, and for design purposes as well. For example, you may want to switch up your colour scheme a little so that it is more winter-esque, or you might want to dress your home up in a slightly different way to make it feel more cosy.

One thing you can easily change in your home, is your blinds and curtains. This doesn’t necessarily have to cost a lot of money, and it can be done really easily too. You could opt for blinds of a different colour or style so that it is in keeping with your winter design, or you might want to go for something a bit more practical that is going to improve insulation.

We know what a difference blinds and curtains can make to your home, so we thought we would share some tips on how to make your home winter friendly!

Winter colours

Throughout winter you may want to bring some cooler tones into your home. There are several different styles of blinds, such as roman blinds or roller blinds that you can get in a variety of colours and patterns. You could opt for something like this even if it’s just temporary to give your home a bit more of a winter themed design.

The great thing about blinds is that they are so versatile. You have so many options to choose from to match with the rest of your interior. Furthermore, this can be quite small in comparison to the rest of the design elements in your room, so it can be quite a simplistic way to bring in some cooler tones to the room.

Creating a more cosy setting

During winter more than ever you want to be as cosy as possible in your home. There are all kinds of ways you can make a room feel more cosy, and though you may not think it, blinds and curtains can play a part in this too. Curtains more so than blinds can make the room feel more cosy, which is perfect for the colder months. Furthermore, if you have blinds currently, this doesn’t mean you will have to switch them out for curtains, but rather you can pair them together. Having a pair of curtains as well as blinds is a great way to create more of a cosy setting. You can also aid this by opting for the right sort of winter colours and tones.

Improving insulation

The main thing we want to do to make our homes more winter friendly, is to prepare and protect ourselves against the cold. Blinds and curtains can really help with this, as they can provide extra insulation within the room. With curtains, you can actually get thermal lining for them which is purely for this purpose. This will help to keep the room well insulated for longer, which will keep you warmer as well as block out the cold.

There are a few different styles of blinds that are good for boosting insulation, including thermal blinds and blackout blinds. Opting for a style that helps keep your home well insulated means you will stay warmer throughout the winter months. Not only this, but it can reduce your heating bills significantly if you do not have to rely on having the heating switched on all the time.
